Uji, small town south of Kyôto, is totally worth a visit. There is located the famous Byōdō-in, kjnown as the Temple,of the Phoenix, a stunning building from the Heian era, in a lovely garden near the Uji river. A calm pedestrian street with green tea merchants leads to the temple, so far away from the inconveniences of over-tourism which made us flee the Fushimi Inari sanctuary...
